What is your role?
As a GIS Specialist at the Inland Empire Utilities Agency, I am responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining the Agency’s geospatial data, maps, and applications.

What / who inspired you to work in water?
After I left the military, I wanted to continue serving the public by doing something that would be challenging and rewarding. The water industry provides a great opportunity for that.

What fuels your passion for your work?
It fuels my passion for work knowing that I can help others become more efficient and find solutions to some of the industry’s challenges by providing useful information. Overcoming these challenges allows us to secure a healthy and safe environment for current and future generations.

What is the biggest mis-perception about working in water?
One of the biggest misperceptions about working in the water industry is the idea that there is a lack of opportunity for growth or narrow career paths. The reality is that the water industry provides fantastic opportunities for people interested in science, engineering, information technology, finance, and much more. This industry also provides opportunities for exciting projects that deal with implementing the latest technologies and innovative new ideas that contribute to helping the environment.

Why should veterans join this field?
Veterans should join this field because many of the skills and values that you gain in the military translate seamlessly to the water industry. Like serving in the military, you work together as a team to help make a difference.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your work?
The most rewarding aspect of my work is that I get to build great relationships with the people I work with and help them solve problems. It’s also rewarding to know that the work we do makes a positive impact on the community and the environment.
