What We’re Looking For

  1. Photos
    • The contest is open to all photographers (amateur, professional, and agencies)
    • File format: JPEG
      • Images submitted should be sRGB JPG files with a recommended minimum size of 1600px width.
      • Restrictions: no borders, no signatures and watermarks
    • Please do not submit images that have been heavily manipulated or A.I. generated.
    • By entering, you grant CWEA permission to use your photo in perpetuity in any medium.
    • By submitting a photo, you are stating that you took the photo and own the rights to the photo.
    • All submissions must be received by 11:59 p.m. October 8, 2023.
    • Please note that submissions featuring selfies or sunsets will not be considered for the photo contest. We are specifically seeking photographs that capture action, on-the-job moments, treatment plant scenes, and depict the good, the bad, and the ugly aspects of what you do for water.
  2. Video clips
    • File format: mp4
      • 9:16 aspect ratio (make sure your phone is upright)
    • 30 seconds or less
    • Please do not submit videos that have been edited with music
    • By entering, you grant CWEA permission to use your video in perpetuity in any medium.
    • By submitting a video, you are stating that you took the video and own the rights to the video.
    • All submissions must be received by 11:59 p.m. October 8, 2023.

The winner of the 2021 Water’s Worth It photo contest was Ernie Leal from SOCWA.

Prizes for photos and videos

We will be selecting winners for both photo and video submissions. The prize amount shown is an Amazon gift card. Please ask your employer who should receive the gift card and follow all employer policies and procedures.

  • The grand prize for the photo category is $100
  • The grand prize for the video category is also $100

In addition to the grand prizes, we will have the following awards in both categories:

  1. Runner-up 1: $50
  2. Runner-up 2: $50
  3. Runner-up 3: $50

Furthermore, we will also be giving honorary mentions to 8 outstanding photos.

Timeline

  • Contest ends: 11:59 p.m., October 8, 2023

Criteria

  1. Submit up to five photos or videos in one entry form
  2. The photographs can be taken by anyone. To upload the photos you need to be a CWEA member to log-in.
  3. The prize will be awarded to the AGENCY/FIRM/ORGANIZATION and the appropriate leader can decide how to allocate the prize. They can let CWEA know how to award the gift card prize.
  4. Only upload photos/videos you or your organization own the copyright, please do not upload images that are copyrighted by someone else or the copyright is unclear.
  5. Important note on photos submitted to CWEA: You’re granting permission to CWEA, its volunteer leaders, employees and other California municipal water/wastewater agencies the irrevocable and unrestricted right to reproduce photographs in perpetuity for magazine publications, websites, signage, events, promotions, photo illustrations, and/or historical archives in any manner or in any medium selected by CWEA. You will release CWEA and its representatives from liability for any violation or claims relating to the photos submitted.
  6. CWEA will select winners. They will select a grand prize, three runner-up prizes and 8 honorable mentions.
  7. The decisions of the judges are final, CWEA reserves the right to change the rules as needed.
  8. Competition judges, CWEA employees and vendors are not eligible to enter this competition.
