OC San Officially Recycles 100%

The First Large-scale Reuse Facility in California Announces They Recycle Everything
By OC San Staff, Wastewater News

It’s official!!! OC San is now recycling 100 percent of our reclaimable flow.

OC San is sending all the water we possibly can to our partners at the Orange County Water District (OCWD) for our joint project, the Groundwater Replenishment System (GWRS). The GWRS is a collaborative effort of OC San and the Orange County Water District. A world-renowned water recycling project, the GWRS takes treated wastewater from OC San that would otherwise be sent to the Pacific Ocean and purifies it using a three-step advanced process consisting of microfiltration, reverse osmosis, and ultraviolet light with hydrogen peroxide.

The GWRS produces up to 100 million gallons a day (MGD) of purified water for residents of Orange County. This is enough new water for nearly 850,000 residents in north and central Orange County.

Through the GWRS Final Expansion project, OC San will soon provide approximately 170 MGD of treated wastewater to the GWRS, enough water for 1 million residents in central and north Orange County.

The GWRS Final Expansion has completed construction and the commissioning is currently underway on budget and ahead of schedule. This is a great accomplishment for both agencies and Orange County.
