California’s First Student Design Competition Team Heading to New Orleans

Announcements

Thank you Student Design Competition Supporters

We’ve started an important, new tradition at CWEA. We held our first ever Student Design Competition on Saturday, May 19th. A panel of distinguished CWEA members served as judges and five teams from California universities gave their best pitch for engineering designs. The judges were assembled by WEF Past President Jim Clark from Black & Veatch. The Santa Ana River Basin Section handled local logistics.

It was a tough competition. At the end of the day, UC Irvine’s Windsor Lee and Jessica Park took home the top prize for their project, Replacement of the Seal Beach Pump Station. The students and their coach receive an all-expenses paid trip to WEFTEC in New Orleans representing California in the international competition.

Student Design Competition

California needs lots of talented, new environmental engineers; the competition gives them first-hand experience in our field.  Let’s promote the profession and our young engineers by supporting Team California at theStudent Design Competition.

If you’re at WEFTEC, the teams compete on Sunday, September 30th inside the New Orleans Convention Center.

Also, a special note of thanks to WEF Director Ian Mackenzie and staff member Megan Barillo for organizing the competition. If you know a great college team we should invite to next year’s competition or wish to volunteer as a judge, please contact [email protected].
