CWEA joined hundreds of agencies throughout California to celebrate the second annual Water Professionals Appreciation Week between Oct. 6-14. This year, we focused on Women In Water and Veterans in Water by highlighting career opportunities and recognizing women and veterans dedicated to serving their communities.
CWEA partnered with CASA, Katz and Associates, ACWA, and several agencies to pull together the theme Women Rock Water and Veterans Rock Water. Using the template included in CWEA’s toolkit, water agencies and individuals from all corners of the state highlighted the week as a way of showing their appreciation. These included engineers, systems operators, planners, construction and maintenance crews, information technology specialists, accountants, administrative professionals, public affairs teams, customer service representatives and managers.

Water Professionals Appreciation Week was established in 2017 by Senate Concurrent Resolution 80, by Sen. Bill Dodd (D-Napa) and sponsored by an ACWA-led coalition that included WateReuse California, California Municipal Utilities Association, California Association of Sanitation Agencies and CWEA.
This year CWEA rolled out over 20 different pieces of artwork, profiles, infographics and videos via social media. Water career stories were shared using hashtags #CAWaterWeek #WomenInWater and #VeteransInWater to highlight the important role of water industry professionals and local public water agencies in ensuring safe and reliable water, wastewater, and recycled water in California. This will be an annual push every October worthy of CWEA time, attention and resources since this week celebrates the profession and CWEA members.
Here are a few profiles CWEA featured:
