State Water Board Accepting Emergency Requests for Operator Certification Exams

Regulations

Message below from the State Water Board’s Office of Operator Certification. Note, emergency requests might be prioritized based on impacts to the treatment plant or distribution system more so than the impact on the individual seeking certification. Detailed requests from Chief Plant Operators describing the plant emergency and need for certified operators might help the State understand the situation.

As a result of the Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) emergency, and state and federal guidance related to social distancing, the April 18th Wastewater Operator Certification Examination has been cancelled.  The State Water Resources Control Board understands this decision will have negative effects on a lot of individuals and as such, every attempt was made to continue with the examination before the ultimate and very difficult decision of cancelling the examination was made.

All examinees who were scheduled for the April 18th, Wastewater Operator Certification Examination, will automatically be rescheduled for the October 2020 Wastewater Operator Certification Examination. Examinees will not be required to pay additional fees to take the October 2020  Wastewater Operator Certification Examination.

The State Water Resources Control board is currently working to identify any viable options to assist those wastewater treatment plants who may have emergency needs to have a Wastewater Operator Certification Examination provided (e.g., compliance with Waste Discharge Orders, etc.) in the Spring.

Therefore, if your wastewater treatment plant has an emergency need for an examination to be conducted, please inform the Wastewater Operator Certification program by sending the following information to the [email protected] e-mail address:

  1. Name of Examinee
  2. Grade Level of Examination Needed
  3. Wastewater System Location
  4. Wastewater Treatment Plant Supervisor Contact Information (Name, Phone Number & E-mail Address)
  5. Emergency Need

Thank you for your patience and understanding during these unprecedented circumstances.
