Rushnu and Silicon Valley Clean Water (SVCW) Partner on Innovative Carbon Capture Pilot Project

Announcements, Members in the News

Rushnu, a technology company focused on carbon capture and sustainable chemical production, is pleased to announce a partnership with Silicon Valley Clean Water (SVCW). Together, they will pilot Rushnu’s CarbonCatalyze™ Technology, which aims to capture and convert CO2 from SVCW’s biogas, significantly reducing the plant’s carbon emissions producing essential disinfection chemicals on-site for wastewater and water treatment.

This collaboration offers multiple benefits, including:

  • Cost savings through lower delivered prices on disinfection chemicals
  • Significant reduction in carbon emissions
  • Increased supply security via on-site chemical production
  • Purification of biogas produced on-site
  • Reduced environmental impact due to reduced truck traffic

As part of the agreement, SVCW will also procure the chemicals produced by the pilot facility once it becomes fully operational.

Rushnu, founded in 2022, is dedicated to the decarbonization of the chemical industry—a sector that the U.S. Department of Energy has identified as one of the hardest to decarbonize. The pilot project with SVCW marks an important milestone for Rushnu, with plans for additional pilots in other industries and locations in the coming years.

Rushnu’s CEO, Matin Hanifzadeh, emphasized the significance of the partnership: “We’re excited to work with SVCW on this critical project. Their support enables us to demonstrate the potential of our technology, helping to address both environmental and operational challenges.”

SVCW General Manager Teresa Herrera highlighted the broader impact of the collaboration: “Partnering with Rushnu aligns with SVCW’s mission to protect public health and the environment, while advancing innovative solutions that benefit the wastewater sector.”

The pilot is expected to begin in the second half of 2025.
