The Sacramento Area Sewer District (SASD) and Sacramento Regional County Sanitation District (Regional San) are pleased to announce the appointment of Christoph Dobson to General Manager (District Engineer), effective September 13. Dobson replaces Prabhakar Somavarapu, who recently retired after 25 years of public service.
Dobson has over 30 years of professional experience and has held several leadership positions within SASD and Regional San. Most recently, he served for eight years as Director of Policy and Planning, where he oversaw long-range planning efforts, regulatory and legislative affairs, high-level policy development and scientific research. Prior to that, he served for seven years as Director of SASD Operations, where he was responsible for maintenance and operations, safety and regulatory compliance, customer care and engineering.
“I feel privileged to have the trust of our Board of Directors to lead SASD and Regional San into the future,” Dobson said. “With a team of more than 750 capable professionals, and the vision and leadership of our Boards, we are primed and ready to continue our important work of protecting public health and the environment—now and for generations to come.”
In his new role, Dobson will be responsible for overseeing operations, finance, policy and planning, public affairs, and internal services for both SASD and Regional San. Dobson holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of California, Davis, and he is a registered professional engineer in the State of California.
Christoph served as the President of CWEA in 2013-2014 and is a member of the Select Society of Sanitary Sludge Shovelers.
