Current Outreach

After Board approval, efforts to design the tunnel and secure the necessary permits proceeded. During this stage, outreach continued with a focus on environmental groups and communities near the tunnel alignment. This outreach helped address concerns about potential construction impacts and build upon the positive relationships our agency has with surrounding community. In early 2018, the California Coastal Commission and the City of Los Angeles approved our permit for beach construction work without public opposition. The Commission actually received a letter of support from a neighborhood council representing the people in that area. Our outreach program will continue throughout project construction.

This new 5-minute video was produced by Districts’ staff that explains how the Clearwater Project will protect local waterways by addressing aging infrastructure. Because of its brevity, the video fits the short timeslots typically allotted by city and neighborhood councils and various stakeholder organizations.
