City of Santa Cruz Wastewater Collection/Flood Control Manager Rome Norman has served the California wastewater industry for 33 years with passion and commitment to improving community quality-of-life and protection of the environment. Rome’s duties include budget management for the entire Collections/Flood Control division and management of the vehicle replacement program. Additionally, he became the “on-call” supervisor for the Public Works Department, in charge of all 29 pump stations in a City that has experienced flooding from the San Lorenzo River that runs through town and out to Monterey Bay. Supervision of flood control is a critical challenge for the protection of the Santa Cruz community and infrastructure during extreme weather events. Throughout Rome’s many years at Santa Cruz he has served as an SEIU leader, working on the best compensation and benefits for his staff. This also contributed to the high respect that Rome’s staff continues to hold for him.

Purpose

The CWEA Quarter Century Recognition Program recognizes water professionals for their commitment to improving the quality of life and the protection of the environment. CWEA Quarter Century Recognition Program honorees have dedicated their careers in a challenging and most vital profession, the water environment field. These essential professionals who have spent countless hours improving our water environment include: Operators; Collection System, Maintenance, Laboratory, and Environmental Compliance personnel; Engineers; and Administrators.

CWEA Quarter Century honorees will be presented with a certificate recognizing their achievement and a lapel pin they can proudly wear identifying them as members of this elite group of professionals.
