East Valley Water District
East Valley Water District implemented the progressive design-build method for the $230 million Sterling Natural Resource Center (SNRC) project amid drought and water supply worries. By recycling 8 million gallons per day of wastewater to replenish the Bunker Hill Groundwater Basin, the SNRC goes beyond traditional functions, setting new standards for wastewater treatment plants in urban sustainability. Through collaborative efforts between the owner and the design-build team in “Team Sterling,” the project achieved exceptional progress in construction while embracing environmentally impactful practices. In addition to water recycling, the innovative SNRC project incorporates an advanced co-digestion process to generate heat and electricity, significantly reducing its carbon footprint. This forward-thinking initiative integrates cutting-edge technology, renewable energy, while providing meaningful social and economic benefits. The project combines innovative engineering, sustainable practices, and a strong community focus, making it a model for future infrastructure projects.
