Amanda Bird

Amanda Bird is a Senior Wastewater Treatment Operator IV with the City of Santa Cruz. She holds a Grade 5 Wastewater Operator license as well as Water Distribution 2 and Water Treatment 2 Operator licenses. Her educational background includes a Bachelors of Science in Environmental Studies from Portland State University and a Masters of Science in Environmental Management from the University of San Francisco. She has been working in the wastewater field for 9 years so far, having begun her career as an Operator-in-Training at the City of Watsonville facility, gained more operator experience with the private O&M company CH2MHill working at the South County Regional Wastewater Authority in Gilroy and for the last five years has been happily employed in the city where she lives. Amanda is part of the core group of Senior Operators at Santa Cruz who are tasked with directing staff and leading plant operations.

Purpose

The Operator of the Year award recognizes outstanding contributions to the operations of wastewater treatment facilities and the application of knowledge to improve plant processes.
