Annual Business Meeting Highlights: State of our Association is Healthy

CWEA President Debi Lewis updated attendees at the April 20th Annual Business Meeting on the State of the Association. The Association received a
clean audit for FY16-17 with one departure from Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), which we anticipated (for treatment of membership dues on a cash basis). CWEA’s fiscal year ends June 30th; a report on preliminary year-end results will appear in the October Clean Water.

Through February 2018, financial performance for FY17-18 is on track. Year-to-date income is over budget by 5% and expenses are under budget -6% .

True to President Lewis’s theme, the Association is Stronger Together. The Board continues to work on a new Strategic Plan to provide the best value for our members. Other accomplishments for the year include:

• CWEA and CA-NV American Water Works Association signed a Statement of Agreement to jointly develop the Advanced Water Treatment operator certification program
• A new way of celebrating Water Professionals will take place during Water Professionals Appreciation Week every October
• Clean Water Magazine featured a Women Impacting Water campaign to highlight California water leaders
• CWEA will send its first Student Design Competition team to WEFTEC in New Orleans this October
• Agencies, professionals and volunteers came together to assist in the fires and mudslides that rocked the state this year
• Launched CAWaterInterns.org, a free internship/apprenticeship listing
