The California Water Environment Association, an association with 10,400 members working in California’s water sector, selected Jenn Jones, CAE, IOM, as their new Executive Director. Based in Oakland, CWEA is one of California’s largest associations dedicated to education and certification for water professionals.

Jenn has over 20 years of association management experience and is a Certified Association Executive (CAE) by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). She most recently served as Executive Director for the American Institute of Architects, San Francisco Chapter and The Center for Architecture + Design.

“I’m pleased to partner with CWEA’s dedicated volunteer leaders and professional staff, continuing the long-standing tradition of this organization as an essential partner and trusted adviser to water professionals, regulators, agencies, and firms,” said Jenn.

The sector is currently experiencing a wave of retirements, nicknamed the “Silver Tsunami.” This year, CWEA is implementing a new strategic plan focused on helping members become experts and leaders in the water sector while enjoying rewarding careers.

“We’re facing one of the largest generational turnovers the profession has encountered, with 30-50% of the workforce retiring since 2010,” said Jenn. “In order to mitigate the impacts on the public and profession, we look forward to partnering with water agencies, regulators, and industry experts to mentor and train a strong pipeline of capable water professionals for the future.”

Jenn is a graduate of the US Chamber of Commerce Institute of Organization Management program.  She holds a Bachelor of Science in Journalism & Sociology from Eastern Michigan University and a Master of Science in Public Service & Non-Profit Administration from DePaul University.

“We’re confident Jenn will be an energetic and inspiring leader who will continue to keep our association moving forward,” said Kevin Calderwood, CWEA’s President and a senior project manager with HDR. “I’m excited to dig in and start working with her.”

Jenn’s previous experience includes an executive role for the International Association of Lighting Designers and serving as the Marketing and Communications Manager for the Chicago History Museum.

Jenn is a native of the Detroit metropolitan area and lives in Oakland.
