Leucadia Wastewater District
Established in 1959, the Leucadia Wastewater District plays a pivotal role in the environmental and public health infrastructure of its region. Daily, it efficiently transports 4.5 million
gallons of wastewater, catering to a diverse population of around 62,000 residents across Leucadia, the La Costa sector of Carlsbad, and northern Encinitas. With a robust network
spanning 200 miles of gravity-fed sewer pipelines, 5,000 manholes, ten pump stations, and 16 miles of high-pressure force mains, the district prioritizes preventing wastewater spills
to mitigate environmental and health risks. Employing advanced closed-circuit television (CCTV) surveillance, meticulous hydro-cleaning, and rigorous inspections, the district
ensures the integrity of its sewer system, focusing on the prevention of obstructions such as fats, oils, and grease (FOG).
