The San Luis Obispo Water Resource Recovery Facility (SLO WRRF), with research partners from the State University of New York and the SURE! program of California Polytechnic State University, recently accepted the California Association of Sanitary Agencies’ (CASA) award for Excellence in Innovation & Resiliency.
The award was given to the SLO WRRF and partners for research centered around economically recovering valuable nutrients from wastewater. This ground-breaking research conducted at the SLO WRRF was sponsored by the National Science Foundation and will further the study of efficient methods of nutrient recovery from wastewater. The City would also like to acknowledge PCL Construction for their logistical efforts in supporting the project.
The City of San Luis Obispo’s Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF) is responsible for treating all of the wastewater (sewage) within the City, Cal Poly, and the County airport. The facility treats 3 million gallons of wastewater daily, twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year. Staffing of operators, laboratory analysts, and maintenance technicians ensure the WRRF is operated and maintained in the most efficient manner possible and complies with federal state and local discharge requirements.
