Message from WEF President Tom Kunetz
Dear WEF & MA Leaders,
As you know, after many years of dedicated service and leadership to WEF, Eileen O’Neill will be leaving her role as Executive Director at the end of summer. Eileen has overseen many positive developments, successes, and achievements during her tenure and will leave WEF well positioned to continue its role as a leading professional water organization. We are all immeasurably grateful for her leadership and contributions.
In preparation for this change of leadership, the Board of Trustees and an executive search team have been working to implement a succession plan that will ensure a smooth, orderly transition and maintain effective management throughout the process. This included the search and selection of a new Executive Director.
Ahead of the formal announcement this afternoon, I am writing to personally introduce Walter Marlowe, P.E., CAE as our new Executive Director. Walt brings extensive, high-level experience in association leadership within the areas of civil engineering, construction, certification, and science, including a tenure as a Director at the American Society of Civil Engineers.
He is currently the Executive Director of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists and was previously the Executive Director of the Construction Specifications Institute and the Executive Director of the American Academy of Water Resources Engineers. Walt has a B.E. in Civil Engineering from Stevens Institute of Engineering and an MBA from George Washington University.
Walt will begin as WEF Executive Director on September 9. In the meantime, we expect business as usual, under Eileen’s leadership, with the day-to-day business of the organization continuing in an uninterrupted manner.
