The Palmdale Water District (PWD) Board of Directors on Monday unanimously approved the name Pure Water Antelope Valley (AV) and adopted a new logo for the water augmentation program that will boost regional water supply through treating recycled water.
Previously known as the Palmdale Regional Water Augmentation Program, it is now called Pure Water AV to align itself with numerous statewide projects that uses advanced water treatment for recycled water. PWD will start in early 2023 on the construction of a 5,500-square-foot demonstration facility on District grounds at 20th Street East and Avenue Q.
“We are on track to have the demonstration facility ready by the first quarter of 2025,” said PWD Engineering Manager Scott Rogers. “It will house equipment for treating recycled water, a water tasting area and a community room. We are excited for our community to see firsthand the technology behind this project and to taste for themselves the water that results from it.”

The $15 million demonstration facility is required by the state before a full-scale project, estimated to cost $75 million to $100 million, can be built by PWD. When the full-scale facility is operational 2027, it will provide an additional 5,325 acre-feet of water per year by using recycled water and treating it for groundwater augmentation.
The demonstration facility’s treatment room will have a miniature version of the advanced treatment plant. It will run recycled water through micro-filtration filters, reverse osmosis filters and ultraviolet light with advanced oxidation. The treatment would remove 99.99% of bacteria, viruses and ions (like salt). The recycled water will be supplied by the Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County No. 20 Water Reclamation Plant in Palmdale.
This multi-year project will be identified by the approved logo, which is a two-tone waterdrop with “AV” and the words Pure Water, Antelope Valley, A Palmdale Water Project to its right. Katz & Associates, working with PWD staff, designed the logo.
“Pure Water AV is critical to the future of Palmdale and our Antelope Valley neighbors because it will be our long-term water solution,” Rogers said. “We will be more drought proof, have local control of our water and improve our groundwater quality and quantity.”
