The 2025 “Imagine a Day Without Water” is set for October 16. Every October, thousands of people and organizations across the country come together for Imagine a Day Without Water—a National Day of Action to highlight the value of water in our daily lives and the systems that deliver it.
The “Imagine A Day Without Water” campaign is hosted by the US Water Alliance’s Value of Water Campaign. This national initiative seeks to raise awareness of water’s importance and the need to invest in water infrastructure. It unites communities, policymakers, and organizations to emphasize water’s vital role in everyday life and the risks associated with shortages or infrastructure issues.
Launched in 2015, this campaign aims to tackle the hidden water infrastructure crisis and advance water equity, affordability, and sustainable management. The annual event features educational resources, social media outreach, and community activities.
This year’s theme is a timely one: “Imagine a Day Without Water—and the Businesses That Rely on It.” From restaurants and hospitals to manufacturing and tech, nearly every local business depends on reliable water. While we welcome all forms of participation—from art contests to school events to policy roundtables—this year’s suggested theme aligns with the Value of Water Campaign’s national efforts to engage business voices and uplift water’s role in a thriving economy.
In the water and wastewater industry, awareness of our work is crucial. Water utilities play a vital role in ensuring tap water flows, safeguarding public health, boosting local economies, and supporting daily life. ‘Imagine a Day Without Water’ serves as a key opportunity to highlight this essential service and engage with the communities we serve.
By participating and encouraging others in your community to do the same, utilities can build trust, raise awareness about infrastructure needs, and encourage appreciation for water. There are many ways to participate, including partnering with local schools, hosting events, and using social media.
This day is also an opportunity to celebrate your water workforce, educate policymakers, and demonstrate how water connects to every issue we care about.
The message is simple: water can’t be taken for granted. Let’s make sure no one has to experience a day without it.
