Join us for an exciting opening session on Monday, Feb 13th at 9:00 am. Opening speakers include:

Joe Charbonnet is a Science and Policy Associate at the Green Science Policy Institute. He recently completed his Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering at UC Berkeley were he developed materials to remove contamination during stormwater infiltration.

In 2018, Joe won the UC-wide Grad Slam Championship, by effectively translating his complex scientific research in to a three-minute accessible presentation called “The Stormwater Solution.”

Joe’s current work focuses on reducing human exposure to a variety of toxic chemicals of emerging concern. The stormwater contaminant he most closely identifies with is lead, because he considers himself useful, but still a bit dense.

Rolf Halden, Ph.D., P.E., is Director of the Center for Environmental Health Engineering at the Biodesign Institute, professor in the Ira A. Fulton School for Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment, and senior sustainability scientist in the Global Institute of Sustainability at Arizona State University.

Halden is a noted expert in determining where in the environment mass-produced chemicals wind up, their impact on health, and how to remove them. An inventor, Halden has developed several technologies to monitor toxins in groundwater and to determine the best way of removing them from precious drinking water resources.
