Volunteers at Inland Empire Utilities Agency working on the Mechanical Technologist exam revalidation

Mechanical Technologist Certification Exams Launch July 1

CWEA Certifications

Certification remains a cornerstone of CWEA’s mission to strengthen the clean water workforce across the state. With members holding more than 7,000 certifications, the program reflects the strong value professionals and agencies place on continuous learning, professional growth, and high industry standards.

The newly revalidated Mechanical Technologist exams are scheduled to launch July 1.

The Mechanical Technologist (MT) certification exam is in the final stages of revalidation to ensure they reflect the real-world knowledge and skills needed by today’s mechanical maintenance professionals.

CWEA hosted a productive two-day Mechanical Technologist Item Writing Workshop where a dedicated team of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) developed a record 450+ new exam questions. This followed the Job Task Analysis (JTA) workshop held earlier this year, where volunteers helped define the duties and competencies required at each certification grade level.

From the valuable insights shared during the JTA process to the focus and collaboration shown during item writing, this group of volunteers has played a critical role in strengthening the program. CWEA is grateful for the support of the participating professionals and agencies, including Inland Empire Utilities Agency for hosting the workshop and facility tour.
