Letter to CWEA Members from Elizabeth Allan, Executive Director

Announcements

Dear CWEA Members:

I wanted to let you know that I will be retiring as CWEA’s Executive Director at the end of April 2019. A new phase of life awaits me.

Choosing to retire from CWEA is definitely bittersweet for me. I love CWEA, our members, our staff, and our mission. I will miss you dearly. It has been my honor to have served CWEA in this role for more than 16 years. I am so proud that through the hard work of our leaders, members, and staff — past and present — the organization is healthy, growing, and positioned well for continued success and service.

As some of you might know, my husband Jim and I had a life-changing experience earlier this year. Jim was extremely fortunate to receive a kidney transplant, thanks to an altruistic donor and our participation in a “paired exchange program.” (I wasn’t a match for Jim, but I could donate to another recipient which allowed Jim to receive a transplant through the program.) That experience helped us see that now is the time we are at our healthiest and it helped me come to the realization recently that, as much as I love you all, I want to spend my time now with Jim.

CWEA’s Executive Committee will serve as the Search Committee to fill the position and will lead the recruitment and transition process. The Executive Committee anticipates drawing on the services of an executive search consulting firm to assist them.

I truly appreciate the support, trust, and partnership you have generously given me over the years. I know you will support your next Executive Director in the same way.

I am grateful for all I have learned and for the opportunity to help you do such good work for our planet. I am honored to have been a small part of CWEA’s 90-year history and I’m excited about the future for CWEA and for you.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart,
Elizabeth
