Let’s Ask What We Can Do, and Let’s Get It Done

Update: On June 26th the CWEA Board formed a Diversity and Inclusion Task Force

As water environment professionals, our mission is protecting and saving lives and operating systems that make our communities cleaner, healthier places for everyone to live in. Racism, inequality, and acts of violence are against everything CWEA stands for.

CWEA stands with our black community and we believe in uniting to fight for opportunity, diversity, equity and fairness for all.

This is a turning point in American history. There are actions our organization can take to combat racism and bring about a fair and equitable world. We must act and honor the memory of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Manuel Ellis, Breonna Taylor, and countless others who had their lives cut short in violation of their unalienable rights.

In the fabric of the nation, CWEA is one small part of the whole. However, every action large or small, can move us in a positive direction. As water environment professionals when faced with a challenge, we roll-up our sleeves and go to work. Working together, we can move mountains and it will take collective action to protect our communities. We are again being called to bold action.

Taking Action

Before we start any action plan, it’s important to listen to our black members and colleagues. What can professional associations do to bring about a fair, equitable, and just community?

We will take time at CWEA’s June Board meeting to listen to recommendations submitted by members. If you would like to contribute a suggestion or idea, we’d like to hear from you.

CWEA counts on volunteers to help accomplish our mission. We hope you’ll join us, dig in, and help all members of our community reach their full potential.
