January’s Question: The P3S Conference and Fog Workshop is right around the corner. What do you look forward to at this event? If you have attended before how would you describe this event to a newcomer?
Here’s a sneak peek into what CWEA members had to say in December – What industry challenge do you think we, as water professionals, should prioritize over the next 5-10 years?
Valerie offered up two key pieces of advice:
(1) Embrace the unknown: You can’t know what you don’t know. Don’t hesitate to ask for clarification, even if you feel you “should” already have the answer. Asking questions not only demonstrates your eagerness to learn and grow, but it also strengthens your relationship with your superiors and fosters a deeper mentorship dynamic.
(2) Seek out inspiration: Identify someone whose role you’d like to pursue and ask for a chance to connect. Whether it’s scheduling a meeting or inviting them to lunch, use the opportunity to learn about their education and training. Be sure to ask, “What’s one thing you wish you had known earlier in your career?” Their insights can provide valuable guidance for shaping your own career path and identifying key learning opportunities that will help you achieve your goals.
This approach will help you grow both professionally and personally, paving the way for future success!
Ryan says…We have a LOT of infrastructure and assets out there on the ground (operators included)- I think we need to use them to their fullest potential which is always changing as we learn how far processes can be pushed and develop tools for operators and sensors for monitoring. We have no clue what’s going to be the hot topic at WEFTEC in 10 years; maybe PFAS manufacturing will have been replaced or the fully automated WWTPs will emerge. But I don’t see people stopping pooping anytime soon! Maybe that’s what we should focus on…
