After two years with the city, Milpitas Public Works Director and CWEA member Nina Hawk is leaving to become the chief operating officer of water utility enterprise at Santa Clara Valley Water District.
“Nina is a rare talent, and I’m very sad to see her leave our city. But I am also very excited to see Nina achieve well-deserved success in her career, and I will be forever grateful for the tremendous changes and accomplishments she brought to our public works department and city,” Acting City Manager Steve Pangelinan said in an email Sept. 22 to the Post.
Pangelinan said he will appoint Public Works Deputy Director Tony Ndah as the acting public works director after Hawk’s departure.
Before her resignation, Hawk had served as Milpitas’ public works director and the acting assistant city manager. In a statement, Hawk said the city has a great culture and history and that she will miss her interactions with residents, including turning their concerns into positive action for the community.
“Serving the City of Milpitas has been one of my greatest pleasures, and I could not be more thankful for the support I have received during my tenure through the hard work of the staff, the connection with community members and our council,” Hawk said in her statement. “We have accomplished so much together and I am truly grateful for the time that I have spent here. The city will continue to be served by some of the most dedicated employees I have had the pleasure of working with.”
According to the city, Hawk played a key role in many projects and services during her time at the city. This included restructuring the public works department, restoring in-house services with new staff and improving landscaping services citywide.
