Victor Valley Wastewater Reclamation Authority
The Hesperia Subregional facility is a 1 million gallon per day (MGD) scalping water reclamation plant developed by the Victor Valley Wastewater Reclamation Authority (VVWRA). It is located on the west side of Hesperia near Maple Avenue.
As a scalping plant, it treats only the liquid portion of wastewater. Solids and remaining flow are redirected to the main VVWRA treatment plant in Victorville. This design reduces the load on regional pipelines and allows for localized water reuse.
The facility includes advanced treatment components such as aeration basins, UV disinfection, membrane bioreactors (MBR), odor control systems, and reclaimed water pump stations. Treated water is stored in a large tank managed by the City of Hesperia and distributed for non-potable uses like landscape irrigation throughout the city.
Purpose
Plants who are not capable of stabilizing or disposing of sludge or its byproducts but produce tertiary recycled water as defined by the State.
For purposes of the Plant of the Year competition, applicants applying under the “Tertiary Recycled Water” category will not compete in any other category (i.e. small, medium, large).
