Martin Popma
April 2000, City of Oceanside Laboratory Technician. Over the 20 years at Oceanside’s laboratory, I advanced through the ranks I have served as the Laboratory Supervisor, where I managed the laboratory and source control programs. In that role, I was monitoring and overseeing regulatory compliance matters for the drinking water, waste water, recycled water, biosolids, source control and ocean monitoring programs. I have extensive management and analytical experience and a thorough understanding of environmental regulations and permit implementation. May 2020, now a Division Manager for the City of Oceanside Water Utilities Department. I effectively manage 50 employees, and oversee and direct the operations and activities of the water distribution system, water field maintenance, sewer collections system, sewer field maintenance, environmental laboratory, electrical and SCADA services.
Purpose
The CWEA Quarter Century Recognition Program recognizes water professionals for their commitment to improving the quality of life and the protection of the environment. CWEA Quarter Century Recognition Program honorees have dedicated their careers in a challenging and most vital profession, the water environment field. These essential professionals who have spent countless hours improving our water environment include: Operators; Collection System, Maintenance, Laboratory, and Environmental Compliance personnel; Engineers; and Administrators.
CWEA Quarter Century honorees will be presented with a certificate recognizing their achievement and a lapel pin they can proudly wear identifying them as members of this elite group of professionals.
