The Inland Empire Utilities Agency developed the “No Wipes Down the Pipes” campaign to educate residents on what can and cannot be flushed. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic there became a scarcity of toilet paper. Several households resorted to using products that were available to purchase or products that residents already had at home. These products were most likely utilized without the knowledge of recognizing the negative effects they can cause on the sewer system, including backing up their system or contributing to mainline and system clogs. The objective behind this campaign was to educate our service area on what can and cannot be flushed and why. Understanding that educating the residents within our service area would help to alleviate the issue of the sewer and treatment plant blockages. The campaign allowed IEUA to help combat and bring light to the issue wastewater treatment facilities were facing at the time.
