Barry I. Blevins – Carmel Area Wastewater District
My name is Barry I. Blevins, and I have worked at Carmel Area Wastewater District in the Collections Department for 15 years. While out in the field, I’m always thinking of new ideas to improve the workday for the typical collection worker. Our jobs can be labor intensive, and quite dangerous, so I try to think of things to improve safety, or the amount of work required to achieve the task at hand successfully.
While working out in the field, we encountered a scenario where there were several large rocks in a storm interceptor we were cleaning. We didn’t want to get them stuck in the vacuum truck so, I was holding the spot light, and my coworker was using a tool on the speed pole system. It required two people to get the job done. I thought there had to be a better way. Hence, the Pole Light was invented!
