FREE CWEA Training: Skills to Boost Your Leadership Success

Do you wish you could:

  • Get people to try new ideas without needing to resist?
  • Implement new behaviors so they stick for more than just a few days or weeks?
  • Facilitate conversations with ease?
  • Effectively manage conversation challenges when clashing personalities are on your team?
  • Confidently start conversations with strangers?
  • Build a network to support your leadership success?
If you answered “Yes” to any of the above questions, you need to attend CWEA’S Leadership Training Day in Palm Springs! Due to member demand, we are bringing back leadership strategist Cynthia D’Amour, MBA, to lead us in a day of high-energy advanced leadership training focusing on specific how-to ideas you can use right away. This workshop will be all new material and useful to you even if you've attended one of her CWEA trainings in the past.

You’ll delve into topics such as:
  • How to get beyond “We’ve always done it that way!”
  • How to lead meetings your diverse team enjoys
  • How to network like a leader
Extra Bonus: You’ll also participate in a networking lunch with the CWEA board! Cynthia will give you specific assignments to help you make connections. The skills you learn today will help you boost your leadership success as a volunteer for CWEA - as well as at work!

Who is Cynthia D'Amour?
Leadership strategist Cynthia D’Amour, MBA is the president of People Power Unlimited. She’s also the author of seven books including The Lazy Leader’s Guide to Outrageous Results and How to Turn Generation Me Into Active Members of Your Association. Cynthia has served more than 67 total years on boards and recruited more than 250 members. Cynthia specializes in working with associations that want to get more volunteers involved and leaders who want to achieve outrageous success. She is a frequent speaker at leadership events.

What is one key to AC-13 Success? Local Section Support!
From Alec Mackie

Dear Local Section Leaders,

Please give one last consideration to supporting a great Annual Conference. Here's what the Sponsorship Committee is offering for only $250:

1. Opening Session - a gathering table for 8 w/your Local Section Sign inside the ballroom!

2. Exhbit Hall - A lunch table w/your Local Section Sign

The conference looks like it will be packed with wastewater folks this year - so get your own great space for you and your local section members to congregate. Your LS logo will proudly be displayed for all to see. Welcome new members and give the regulars a central place to get together and chat.

So far we've got 1 table sponsor for DAMS. If your section can, please support AC-13 and get your very own Local Section table.

Contact a sponsorship co-chair: Alec Mackie or Marco J. Palilla.

Regional Committee Meetings

The roll-out of the “straw design” for revitalizing the Northern and Southern Regional Committees (NRC and SRC) has continued moving forward, with considerable positive feedback from participants. Increased CWEA State Board participation in Regional Committee meetings is one way that these committees are already bringing more value to local section leaders. CWEA Local Section Presidents and VPs, be sure to attend the upcoming NRC, SRC and Joint Regional Committee meetings at AC13, and bring ideas for more ways the regional committees can serve you! The committees will meet separately from 1:30 - 2:30 on April 17 and then join to meet together with leaders from across the state from 2:30 - 4:00. Contact Barbara Langley and Steve Caswell.

Public Education Committee Meet-Up at AC
From Catherine Allin

The Public Education Committee has decided to do something new this year at the Annual Conference in Palm Springs. Instead of holding a committee breakfast, the group will informally gather at the reception on Wednesday (April 17) in the exhibition hall. For more information on the meetup, contact Committee Chair Catherine Allin at

Please spread the word and bring anyone who might be interested in getting more involved with CWEA’s Public Education Committee. In particular, we’re recruiting a Secretary from the South to move up the officer ranks.
