The facility receives about 12 million gallons of wastewater per day, with spikes over 25 million gallons during the rainy season. The facility treats wastewater to a secondary level through a conventional, non-nitrifying activated sludge process. Treated effluent that is not recycled is safely disposed of through a collectively owned discharge pipe into the San Francisco Bay.
