CWEA with Tri-Counties Section Certification Preparation Session

Tools & Tips for Preparing

Prepare for your upcoming CWEA certification exam by participating in this interactive session.   Our trained moderators will share how to use the many resources and tools to get you on the path to your certification.

You will review the CWEA Path to Certification and delve into the knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA’s) that make up the core of your vocation.  You’ll use the newly developed KSA Gap Analysis Tool to identify areas to focus on during your studying and prep.

After reviewing the tools and tips for preparing for your exam, you will divide into vocation focused groups and learn more about specific ways to study and prepare.  You will be given an action plan tool for you to fill out and use throughout the day to track your action items and plan your next steps.

You will leave this workshop with a better idea of what areas you need to focus on as you prepare for your exam.   Including some new tools:

  • KSA Gap Analysis
  • Action Plan
  • Resources to tap into

WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR IN TRAINING (OIT)

Carpinteria Sanitary District Application

Starting Annual Salary:  $49,272

The Carpinteria Sanitary District is seeking candidates to apply for an entry level Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator in Training (OIT) position.

We are seeking a motivated, resourceful individual who is eager to learn the job duties of the OIT position.  These include monitoring wastewater treatment plant processes, performing routine laboratory tests, and other key tasks necessary to maintain and operate a state of the art wastewater treatment facility.  The selected candidate will participate in a comprehensive training program and will be required to obtain an Operator in Training Certificate from the State Water Resources Control Board.  Obtaining a Grade 2 Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certification within 36 months from date of hire is a requirement of the position.

Regular working hours for this position are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. with ability to work weekends, nights and holidays as needed.  Possession of a valid California driver’s license and a high school diploma or GED is required.

The District offers a competitive compensation package that includes a CalPERS retirement program, medical, dental and vision insurance for employee and dependents, life insurance, sick/vacation leave, and paid holidays.

Our Tri-Counties Section (TCS) September Workshop and Training Seminar will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at the City of San Luis Obispo’s Corporation Yard. Choose from 7 different wastewater training sessions and earn up to 4 contact hours valid for CWEA TCP certificate renewal.  And with this last workshop of 2017, we’re helping even more with many excellent class presentations and topic discussions.

A tour of SLO’s WWTP will be offered and the TCS, with generous vendor support, continues to add to this workshop its 8th Annual Vendor Walk Grand Prize Drawing.  To qualify, workshop attendees will visit the participating vendors’ booths, learn what products they offer, have the exhibitor initial your signature form, then place the completed form into the designated box. The drawing will start on site at 2:10 p.m.

WATER RECLAMATION PLANT OPERATOR III
Salary: $30.40 – $41.01/ hr

Performs a variety of water reclamation plant operations activities; monitors the operation of the nitrification/denitrification wastewater treatment plant pumps, motors, filters, and other equipment; makes adjustments to treatment process as necessary. Compiles and calculates data from gauges, dials, hour meters, and other instrumentation indicators; records data and enters into computer database. Maintains and calibrates electronic equipment including probes, analyzers, and sampler units. Maintains and repairs pumps, valves, motors, injectors, vacuum regulators, sample compositors, and other equipment. Maintains and cleans sludge drying beds. Inspects water reclamation plant equipment, grounds, and facilities to locate needed repairs and maintenance requirements; makes repairs to plant equipment and performs general plant maintenance work. Collects various water and sewage samples for laboratory tests; conducts a variety of basic chemical, biochemical, and bacteriological tests on plant influent, effluent, and related bodies of water; interprets results and makes necessary adjustments to plant operations; maintains records and prepares required reports. Responds to citizen inquiries and complaints and determines appropriate corrective action; coordinates activities with other City staff in resolving complaints. Assists in the training of less experienced staff; assists water reclamation system and plant mechanics in activities related to water reclamation system preventive and emergency maintenance. Responds to emergency conditions at the plant, pump stations, and public streets during weekend duty or when on night duty.
