  • The June SFBS dinner meeting will be held on June 7, 2012 at Chevy's in Union City. Please note dinner will be starting at 6:30pm. Shawn Nesgis, Maintenance and Televising Coach with Union Sanitary District will be presenting "The 2011 CWEA Large Collection System of the Year, Union Sanitary District."   • CWEA will be holding a one-day speciality workshop, "Operations & Maintenance 101 and Beyond" on May 24, 2012 at the Wedgewood Banquet Center in San Ramon. For more information on how to reserve your spot, please see the O&M Specialty Workshop flyer.

4/30/2012 - Updates

  • The Redwood Empire and San Francisco Bay Section will be hosting a joint summer baseball outing at the Giants versus Reds game on Saturday June 30th @ 1:05 PM (with Picnic Tailgate @ 11:00 AM). Cost $40 for members ($50 for non-members).  Tickets are limited and available on a first come, first served basis.  RSVP by June 1st (RSVP is obligation to pay) by contacting Matt Winkelman at matt.winkelman@ghd.com (put “baseball game” in subject line)

4/19/2012 - Updates

  • The Collection Systems Committee will be holding the Fourth Collection System Technologies Vendor Fair on June 6, 2012 at Union Sanitary District. Speakers from award winning agencies, and other industry leaders, will lead roundtable discussions, interactive workshops, live demonstrations and equipment tours. Over 50 cities and special agencies attended our 2010 event. Pre-registration is required and early registration is recommended due to limited space.   • The Safety Committee has added new information to their committee page.

  • The May SFBS dinner meeting will be a joint dinner meeting with the Santa Clara Valley Section held on May 3, 2012 at the Newark Hilton in Newark. Please note dinner will be starting at 6:30pm. Pete Schafer, Aquatic Toxicologist, SJ/SC Water Pollution Control Plant will be presenting on "The Basics of Whole Effluent Toxicity (WET) Testing."   • Help us make the San Francisco Bay Section (SFBS) better and more valuable to you, your agency, and the wastewater industry as a whole!  Get involved and volunteer in CWEA to:
    • Build leadership skills in a safe environment!  Lead meetings, build teams, set and achieve goals, engage volunteers, influence others, and speak in public in a safe environment surrounded by your peers.
    • Build your professional network!  Establish contacts and working relationships with operations and maintenance professionals, laboratory professionals, engineers, equipment vendors, students and academia.  Establish mentoring relationships, and create a community for exchanging technical information and solving problems.
    • Get empowered in the wastewater industry!  Get tuned in to the latest hot topics, get to know industry decision makers, influence the direction of the organization, and gain recognition through awards that document progress and growth.

    • Technical Certification Program Committee – help your colleagues pass their certification tests by organizing study sessions.  Contact mherston@fssd.com
    • Student Activities Committee – plan and organize outreach and networking events for students interested in the wastewater field.  Contact CDudley@browncald.com
    • Northern Regional Training Conference Co-Chair – Connect with experts in the wastewater field by co-chairing this two-day Northern California conference.  Contact DWing@carollo.com

     

  • The CWEA Safety Committee would like to invite everyone to attend the Safety Committee Breakfast on Friday 4/20 at the CWEA Annual Conference.  The agenda consists of breakfast and networking event with other local section safety professionals, presentation from last year’s Burke award Winner and a presentation on proper Safety Awards applications procedures. Also help us welcome 2012-2013 new Safety Chairs"  You do not have to purchase breakfast, simply show–up!  We look forward to seeing you Friday Morning! Emergency Preparedness Seminar
Emergency Preparedness: Are You Ready? Seminar on Tuesday June 19, 8:30 am – 4 pm. Seminar is for anyone interested in preparing themselves and their organization for the next emergency (operators, engineers, managers, field crews, students, etc.). Topics will include: Business Continuity After a Major Emergency, Reliability and Redundancy for Wastewater Pumping Facilities; SCADA Redundancy; Keeping the Public Informed Before, During, and After an Emergency; How to be ready to deal with any disaster or emergency in 10 minutes or less; and more.
