SENIOR CIVIL ENGINEER and PRINCIPAL CIVIL ENGINEER
The City of Davis, CA is seeking engineers to fill two positions in the Utilities Resource Management Division of the Public Works Department. These newly approved positions were created to handle the work associated with two new major utility improvement projects: The Davis-Woodland Water Supply Project and the Wastewater Treatment Plant Improvement Project. These two projects will be transforming the City’s utilities and provide a once-in-a-lifetime career opportunity to be involved with the two largest projects ever to be undertaken by the City of Davis.
The City has a natural, land-based wastewater treatment system that was prided for its sustainable, low energy treatment. However, increasing regulatory requirements have resulted in a need to shift to a more reliable conventional secondary and tertiary treatment process. These positions present a unique opportunity to help guide this transition to a state-of-the-art treatment facility. The proposed improvements have been divided into the tertiary and disinfection project and the secondary replacement project. Both projects must be online by October 2015.
Other unique opportunities include permitting and implementing a biosolids land application program and potential water reuse project. The City is also working to bring a 1 MW solar facility to the plant site to offset peak demand now and higher load requirements in the future. The selected applicants will participate in management of design and construction management contracts, oversee CEQA review for the improvements, assist in permitting and regulatory studies, and assist in securing funding.
The ideal candidates should possess the following characteristics:
• Strong management and organizational skills managing large and/or complex projects with a broad set of management responsibilities for program activities and major capital improvement projects.
• Be an effective communicator both orally an in writing, with the demonstrated ability to clearly explain complex issues to City Council, managers, outside agencies and officials, local organizations and the public.
• Possess the skills to analyze methods, procedures, regulations, statistics and reports.
• Energized by major challenges and accomplishments
• Calm under pressure, resilient and has a good sense of humor
