The annual RES / SFBS "Summer Social" was a big success!!  The tailgate picnic went very well, and the Giants -vs- Dodgers baseball game was a "nail biter"!!  (Obviously, I was excited when Pat Burrell hit the 2 run "jack" in the bottom of the 8th inning----and then watching the Giants hold on for the 2-1 victory!!)

Judith Millard was kind enough to bring her digital camera to the game, and took some photos of our group.  See them here.

Survey Results and President Message

Redwood Section Members:

As we begin a new year in the Redwood Section the Board of Directors is looking to refine the path our Section will take this year. We understand that with potential budget cutbacks participation may not be as strong as past years and we are looking for ways to keep our costs down and pass the savings on to the members.

By now you should have received a questionnaire about what the members of the Section would like to see in the coming year. This survey was developed so the Board of Directors can better choose events and trainings that the members want to see in this Section. Survey questions range from interests in dinner & tour topics, training opportunities and our summer social.

The message has been heard loud and clear, Redwood Section Members want to see more localized training. The Board of Directors is currently working on several fronts to bring training to the Redwood Section. The Section will be sponsoring this year’s Northern Regional Safety Conference in Woodland and the CWEA Training Coordination Committee has asked us to sponsor a specialty conference, “Modernizing Fixed Film Processes”, which may bring professionals from all over the United States to the Section. The Board is also working on training for Electrical Safety and Confined Space.

The Redwood Section cannot make all of these events successful without volunteers. Hosting training events is a lot of work and the Board and Committee Chairs cannot be expected to take the task on alone. Volunteers are what make a successful training event successful. Any amount of time you're willing to offer would graciously be accepted by CWEA's state and local committees. If you are interested in helping the Redwood Section’s training programs a success please contact a Committee Chair of your choice and join the Committee.

To begin the new year, on January 21st we will have our first tour and dinner of the year. We will be touring the Fairfield Suisun Sanitary District Treatment Plant followed by dinner at the Paradise Valley Golf Club. The Fairfield Suisun Plant is the latest member Treatment Plant in our Section. A presentation on the Fairfield Suisun Sanitary District will follow. The exact topic has not been revealed.

Once again, the Redwood Empire Section will be hosting TCP Study Sessions this Spring. The exact date of this event has not been determined so keep an eye out for the Notice. The study sessions will be offered four times a year and hosted by one of four different local sections around the Bay Area and Sacramento.

Here is to a successful 2010 and I hope to see you at the next Section dinner meeting and tour in Fairfield!!
