Our MissionThe purpose of this Section is to enhance the education and technology, to protect the quality of our water resources, and to promote the ecological balance with the environment's other resources such as land and air. Section ProfileThe NSJ Section was established in 1922 and was originally associated with the California Water Pollution Control Association (CWPCA). The NSJ Section is associated with the California Water Environment Association and has a membership of over 400 water and wastewater professionals. Our monthly dinner meetings provide opportunities for professional networking with our sponsors and members, to discuss statewide issues, and to attend a training seminar. A monthly membership newsletter articles of interest on current workplace health and safety, regulation updates, and an occasional spotlight article on our Board members and sponsors. The NSJS has an annual June joint section meeting with the Sacramento Area Section, and participates in an annual golf tournament. Look for the tournament event write up in our newsletter. This year, Northern San Joaquin Section scheduled a joint section meeting with Central San Joaquin Section during the month of October. The meeting was a great success, and we plan to make this an annual event. The NSJS Board of Directors host annual events each year during the summer months for the membership and their families. CWEA & WEF Awards ProgramThe purpose of the annual awards is to recognize outstanding professional achievements in the wastewater field; to improve the professional status of all personnel working in the wastewater industry and related fields; stimulate public awareness of the importance of wastewater treatment to public health and water environment. The 2006 committee chair, Mark Von Aspern, has reviewed submitted nominations from our local section members. The nomination packets were submitted to the local chair by October 20, 2006. The members of the Awards Committee, at our December Banquet Awards and Installation Dinner, presented to the recipients awards and recognition. The local section award winners will then be submitted to CWEA for statewide consideration. The state awards are presented during the April annual conference. Applications for the State and WEF Awards are available at the following link: www.cwea.org/awards. We have added a special "Awards" page to present our NSJS winners. Please visit the page and find out about our outstanding individuals for the year 2006.
